Expanding abilities one person at a time

Supportive Individualized Residential Alternative (IRA)

You can choose to live in a Coarc Supportive IRA apartment if you are a person with intellectual and developmental disabilities, aged 21 years or over, and able to live in the Columbia County, NY, community with only a few hours of support per week. Some of the people who choose to live in our Supportive IRA apartments include people with autism. You must be eligible for OPWDD funded services.

We have several one and two bedroom apartments that we own or rent from local landlords. Some apartments are one level, some have stairs, and some are equipped with their own laundry facilities. All apartments are certified through OPWDD and they are equipped with smoke detectors, carbon monoxide detectors, and fire extinguishers.

When you live in a Supportive IRA apartment, you have scheduled, at-home visits by a Coarc direct support professional at least four times a month to learn how to care for your apartment, budget your money, and pay your bills. You also learn how to self-administer medication, buy groceries, operate your safety equipment, and build other day-to-day skills to achieve your goal to live as independently as possible.

People who live in our Supportive IRA apartments are also eligible for social work, occupational therapy, physical therapy and behavior specialist support. We have a nursing and an administrator on call at all times and provide emergency contact numbers. We can assist with medical appointments, health management, and medications. We provide transportation for medical appointments, grocery shopping, laundry, and other tasks for living in your own apartment.

Waiting lists for Coarc Supportive IRA apartments may apply.
