Special Needs Trusts, or the more accurate term Supplemental Needs Trusts, are a great way to set aside money to help improve the quality of life for an individual experiencing a developmental disability.
There are two main reasons for setting up a Supplemental Needs Trust.
- A Supplemental Needs Trust can help structure an individual's financial resources so they can become eligible for various governmental programs such as Medicaid, Social Security, Subsidized Housing and Food Stamps.
- A Supplemental Needs Trust can provide the beneficiary with the ability to purchase additional supports, services, therapies, and other items that are either not covered or not fully covered by conventional governmental programs.
