Become a Coarc Member | Become Involved
Please join our circle of family members, neighbors, businesses, and friends by becoming a Coarc member for 2016. More Coarc members mean a stronger voice for Columbia County on behalf of the individuals we serve! We need your support now more than ever to help ensure the continued delivery of our programs and services for people with disabilities. Your membership will help to sustain programs like Coarc Ecycle (electronics recycling), which provides employment training and meaningful work to individuals like Robert Smith.
A Brooklyn native, Robert came to Hudson to live with his sister at around age 30. He started at Coarc in 1999, when he began working in the workshop, and he later worked on the mobile cleaning crew. With the Workshop Transition Project underway, Robert has shifted his focus to competitive community employment. 2015 was a successful year for Robert: he became a Coarc employee at Coarc ECycle, where he loves to take things apart and fully enjoys the variety of the experience. Robert was also recently hired at ShopRite in Hudson, handling the carts. He is happy at both jobs and has gained many skills. Called by Coarc staff one of the most positive people they know, Robert has a can-do attitude and drive for success that is evident in the quality of his work. His hobbies are football and baseball, and you can often find him sporting a Mets or Giants hat. 2016 will continue to be a promising year for Robert. With his positive outlook on employment, the sky is the limit!
Coarc was founded in 1965 as the Columbia County Chapter of NYSARC, Inc. by families and community advocates. Membership in Coarc includes membership in NYSARC, Inc., and The Arc of the United States. A greater membership builds clout to impact policy and funding decisions at state and national levels. Statewide, NYSARC, Inc. and all its chapters have achieved a milestone of over 106,000 members. Chapter bylaws require that we renew our membership each year, so please help us maintain this advocacy milestone on behalf of people with disabilities. Thank you!
