Become a Friend of Coarc | Become Involved
Dear Coarc Members, Employees, and Friends,
Please join our circle of family members, neighbors, businesses, and friends by becoming a Friend of Coarc for 2017. The more friends we have, the stronger our voice will be on behalf of the individuals we support! We need your support now more than ever to help ensure the continued delivery of our programs and services for people with disabilities. Your contribution will help more individuals like Bernie Fischer to achieve their goals and dreams.
Over 52 years! That’s how long it had been since Bernie Fischer and his sister Paula Kane had seen each other or even known about the other’s whereabouts! Last year, Bernie expressed to Michael Richter, his Direct Support Professional, that he wished to find his sister and have family in his life. They had lost track of each other when Bernie moved many years ago. After searching with no success, a private investigator who specializes in finding family members was hired, and Michael was able to make contact with Bernie’s sister Paula, who now lives in Florida.
Paula came to visit Bernie in early February of 2017. They were truly joyful to be together again. The bond and love between these siblings is strong. Paula’s love, compassion, and understanding is more than anyone could have hoped to find for Bernie. They have plans for Bernie to visit Paula in Florida and will stay in touch through phone and video chat in the meantime.
Coarc was established in 1965 as the Columbia County Chapter of NYSARC, Inc. by families and community advocates. When you become a Friend of Coarc, you also become a member of NYSARC, Inc. and The Arc of the United States. A greater membership builds clout to impact policy and funding decisions at state and national levels. Statewide, NYSARC, Inc. and all its chapters have achieved a milestone of over 110,000 members. Chapter bylaws require that we renew the Friends of Coarc each year, so please help us maintain this advocacy milestone on behalf of people with disabilities. Thank you for your support!
